BBC Legal Terms And Notices

Thank you for participating in the live virtual BBC Singers Event on the 21st May 2024, with the option to upload your recording to be a contribution to the BBC Centenary Concert (Your Contribution to the Project).  Your use of the SAFFIRE App is subject to the terms & conditions and privacy policy of the University of York. You can read about how the BBC will process Your personal data in the BBC Privacy Notice that was provided to You when registering to take part in this BBC project. By using the BBC practicing material for the Project and contributing, You agree to the following BBC terms.

  • You declare that you are 18 or older. If You are a parent or legal guardian of a child who is under 18 participating in the Project, You need to accept these terms and conditions on the Young Contributor’s behalf after reviewing them together.
  • You confirm that the purpose of Your Contribution has been explained to You and You acknowledge that Your Contribution will be presented publicly.  BBC practice material, such as music score or audio recordings, may be provided to You on the University of York’s website at http://saffire.york.ac.uk in preparation for the BBC Singers Workshop live event (BBC Practice Material). You may only use the BBC Practicing Material to rehearse.
  •  Your personal Contribution for the Project. You must not copy the BBC Practice Material to share them or any recording based on them with anyone else, or for any purpose other than Your Contribution to the Project. 
  • You agree to the recording and/or communication to the public of Your Contribution, and assign to the BBC all rights in Your Contribution for the BBC to use it (including for anyone else to whom BBC allows to use it) worldwide in perpetuity for any purpose whatsoever and in all media known now or in the future.
  • You agree to participate in the Project and make Your Contribution without reimbursement of costs and/or any payments from the BBC. Although the BBC hopes to use Your Contribution, it cannot guarantee to do so. No tickets or other type of access to the Centenary Concert are included.
  • To the best of Your knowledge and belief, Your Contribution will not infringe the copyright or any other rights of any third party or be defamatory. Please act responsibly when recording your Contribution, do not include any third party material and only:
    • contribute in a personal capacity – not as part of your job or for your business. Your Contribution should not promote a business, a political party or recognised formal campaigning organisation.
    • only record Yourself singing as requested during the live virtual singing event and do not record others as part of Your Contribution. 
    • be aware of Your surroundings, avoid any health and safety risks or inadvertently recording others. Do not endanger Yourself or others, and do not break any laws.
  • Your Contribution must not contain any malicious software or other programming that can cause harm.
  • You are responsible for any content within Your Contribution and the BBC will not be liable for any loss or damage to You or Your property unless caused directly by the BBC’s negligence.
  • The BBC (and anyone else to who BBC gives permission to do so) may review, edit, copy, adapt or translate Your Contribution at the BBC’s discretion (or at the discretion of anyone to whom we give relevant permissions). You hereby grant the BBC consent and waive applicable rights so to allow the Your Contribution to be used in the manner described.
  • In consideration of mutual exchange of obligations, You and the BBC agree to these terms. Except as otherwise set out in these specific BBC terms above, BBC online Terms of Use at http://www.bbc.co.uk/terms, including the rules for commenting uploading, will also apply to Your Contribution, so please review these as well.
  • This Agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales and the jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts applies.
